That roughing the passer penalty was pretty lame. I don't really blame the officials, it's the league's guidance designed to protect players (QBs in particular) that's mostly at fault. And I think there's probably no real favoritism, but it's more that certain types of QBs (scramblers, improvisers) are naturally going to get the benefit of that more since it's hard to tell if they're running, throwing, sliding, whatever.

Hopefully it's something the league addresses in the offseason. I've mostly supported the league's attempts to disincentivize various injury-causing things, but they've got a few rules/tendencies that are trying to square a circle. You can't eliminate that stuff.

All that said, they just respotted what was initially called a first down for KC to be just short, a pretty big call given how far down the field they are.

Hopefully that doesn't come back to haunt them.

Another punt coming up, but man, both defenses really coming through when it matters.

You can see why Stroud is so exciting to some people, though. He's really close to threading the needle on these throws, so many just barely getting deflected away. If he's like 5% better (or, sometimes, if the receivers are 5% better) on a lot of these places he'll be a superstar.

If the Chiefs hang on you gotta lay this loss at the feet of the Houston offensive line. They've looked overwhelmed most of the night. KC only rushed four there and still broke free.

And as I was typing that, they block the field goal, which just underscores the point.

Obviously you give some credit to Spagnuolo, too, but the fact that they were getting home without a blitz sure makes it seem like this was mostly just the KC line winning the battle at the line throughout the night.

Houston really came to play, though. They clearly outplayed KC in the first half and probably a little in the 3rd quarter. But the pass rush in the fourth quarter just took over, apart from that one drive, and they snuffed it out in the end anyway.

Chiefs are gonna have to play a lot better on offense if they wanna beat whoever comes out of the Buffalo-Baltimore game. Or hope the defense is equally dominant against a much better team, which seems like a big ask. Seems unlikely they'll sack Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson eight times.

I can't watch the Chiefs because they kind of make me puke, but have the Lions game on, and they are shooting themselves in the foot.

... and now Goff is out, on a play that should have gotten a flag. (my poor Lions-loving sister is probably besides herself right now)

Edit - welp, and now she's doing cartwheels, lol - what a crazy game
