I have never seen this movie though I know it has cult worship here.
It’s very ‘80s, very
Breakfast Club, but I’d hardly call it a ‘cult film’, especially here of all places. I wanted to watch something sort of upward-looking, and this definitely fit the bill. I really miss such films, no one can make them anymore, and even back in the day they were few and far between. It’s so perfectly well-rounded and positive, and the teenage characters are sort of aspirational, if that’s the word.
My mum and I watched
The Leftovers together a while back (I’d seen the show before, she hadn’t), and she absolutely hated the teenagers there. Couldn’t watch the teenager-led scenes. I reminded her that she loves
Twin Peaks, and that features teenagers just as heavily. She said she dislikes those scenes, too, but the teenagers in the ‘80s/‘90s shows/films were far more mature and likeable. This is absolutely what comes to mind after watching
Ferris Bueller… — everyone behaves in really emotionally mature ways, yes, I did just say that. The dialogue has emotional depth.
I remember you’re not interested in TP, but it just came to mind.
