Stuart Fails to Save the Universe (new BBT spinoff)

Tools

The Big Bang Theory is the franchise that just won't die. In addition to Young Sheldon and other follow-ups to it, there is now going to be a Stuart-centric spinoff as well....

The Big Bang Theory spinoff on Max is untitled no more — and it’s good news and bad news for Kevin Sussman’s Stuart Bloom character. The series, which remains in development, will be titled Stuart Fails To Save The Universe, Deadline has learned. That puts Stuart at the center of the offshoot but also hints that the beloved sidekick, who could never quite catch a break on Big Bang, may not have better luck on his own.

Stuart Fails To Save The Universe, from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, extends the trend of every Big Bang Theory spinoff being named after its main character(s), following in the footsteps of Young Sheldon and its offshoot Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

It is also is the first title of a Big Bang spinoff that is thematically connected to the moniker of the mothership, The Big Bang Theory, named after a popular theory about the origin of the universe.

On Stuart Fails To Save The Universe, Sussman is joined by fellow Big Bang alums Lauren Lapkus, who plays Kevin’s girlfriend Denise, Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler) and John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke). Because the series is still awaiting green light, the quartet are not formally cast in it but have talent holding deals with WBTV with the purpose of starring in the spinoff once it’s picked up.

The new series is written and executive produced by Chuck Lorre, co-creator, executive producer of Big Bang and all of its spinoffs to date, Zak Penn and Big Bang co-creator Bill Prady.

From the moment the Big Bang spinoff was unveiled in April 2023, there has been speculation that it may revolve around Stuart Bloom (Sussman) and his comic book store. While a reliable source of comic relief, the kind-hearted Stuart also was often lonely and depressed as he strived to belong and be part of the Big Bang gang. Things started looking up for him when he met Denise. He also became close friends with Raj in Season 6 of the mothership series.

But, nobody has cared about anything BBT since at least 2011, especially a side character that was in like, 3 seasons of the 12 season run and which nobody cared about.
Digging for scraps again as there's no originality in the writing room.

But if nobody has cared, why do all of the spinoffs keep getting renewed?

Lack of ideas and no originality.

If they created something actually new, and actually original, it'd work, and be successful.

The problem is, is that they can't do that. Because they're talentless and hacky writers and producers.

When they come out with something that they *think* is new and original, it fails, because it's actually not new nor original... because the audience can see that it's just reused and recycled ideas from other shows with a new name and don't buy into it.

So in the minds of the talentless and hacky writers and producers across movies and TV shows, making what they think are "new" things, doesn't work... so they scrape the barrel constantly to attach established names brands to what is essentially just dredged up remains of more successful and original writers of yesteryear.

In this case, they're using a character nobody cares about from a TV show that died 14 years ago, just so it has a successful name attached, and will sell for about 6 episodes before it also dies.
Give it another 6 months or so after this series is cancelled after half a season, and they'll make a Penny prequel series with a 10 year old actress.
Because they're hacky and unoriginal writers, with no idea how to create original characters and stories.

Now I really don't understand what you're saying at all. Young Sheldon ran for 7 seasons and was followed by yet another series. Why would one show after another keep getting made in this franchise if people weren't watching them?

Rolling audience seeing as the original BBT gets repeated daily in a random order, and nostalgia from OG fans from 2007.
