The Trickiest Question Ever. VHS Preview

The store was an independent store. Maclean Video Library. The owner was a pretty nice guy so the chance of it being bootleg, nah.

This is certainly one of the weirdest. I'm sure the movie was from a comedy duo, like Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd, or someone like that. I Only remember the Trailer for FIST as one of the people were doing a funny impersination of Stallone, and possibly one of the other trailers was a Stallone movie also. The guy who owned the video store was a pretty straight guy, so, it was all above board, but it was independent. The tape would probably still be there if the store didn't burn down about 10 years ago.

"In the water I'm a very skinny lady"
The description sounds a little like the movie "Tapeheads" (1988). The comedy duo in the flick are John Cusack and Tim Robbins. The film is about two buddies who decide to form their own video production company. There are parodies of famous people, Pop Culture (Of the time) and even a spoof of a KFC type fast food joint in the film. There are scenes from the movie on You Tube. Also, a summary on IMDB. I hope this helps.

I do not know what the situation was in Australia, but in North America bootleg VHS tapes were quite a moneymaker for organized crime back in the day (https://lunchmeatvhs.com/blogs/blog/...e-vhs-bootlegs). They typically sold to independents, not large chains...

Out of curiosity, did the overdubs on your tape sound Australian or American?

That's another good question. As it was, I thought, the two actors from the upcoming movie doing impersonations over the top of the previews. I keep going back to VHS of "Spies like us" as I thought it was Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd who wer doing the overdubs. The overdubs were Definitely "Fist" and I think the Other Was "Rambo II". One of the guys was slurring his speech in a overly exaggerated version of Sly. I was certain it was the two actors doing this as a joke being Spies, and mucking around with the tape so to speak. I Hired it several times and always had a laugh at the previews thinking how clever it was. But that was about 30 something years ago, and now I'm not certain if it was Spies like us, and It is weird that no one else seems to have seen this.

Did you check out Rusty G's "Tapeheads" suggestion?

Otherwise I am suspecting that either (1) you are misremembering this or (2) there was only ever one copy of this tape, and it was destroyed in the fire.

Note that there are parodies of Rambo II in the movies "UHF" and "Hot Shots Part Deux".

I found this on youtube:

This is the extras on the VHS of "Spies Like Us", but there are no parodies of trailers.

I have never seen Tapeheads, although it looks interesting and I will give it a watch. I certainly not misremembering it, but it certainly could have been the only one as I am sure someone would have remembered it by now. I guess this is one mystery lost forever.

It is very long shot, but I heard about movie entitled "Hercules Returns" (1993). Is it possible?

When Brad gets fired from his job, he goes to reopen an old cinema, he enlists his frends to help him show the last film the cinema aired before it closed… Only they don’t know, the film is in Italian. With everyone sitting ready they begin to dub the movie… on the fly!

Other possibilities:

"Cobrador" (1986) sounds similar, but I doubt.

A pinoy movie spoof on Sylvester Stallone hit movie, "Cobra" - another rib tickler from the Makiling-Redford white tandem.
