R.I.P. Richard Chamberlain

Tools

He was 90.

Richard Chamberlain, Shogun star, dies aged 90

I watched The Last Wave this morning before learning this news, of all things. A pretty shocking coincidence.

Loved him in Shōgun (1980), one of the greatest miniseries ever. In interviews he seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

RIP

Wasn't really surprised by this one as the last couple of time I had seen him he was looking poorly. I actually remember watching Richard as Doctor Kildare as a kid. I also liked him in Joy in the morning with Yvette Mimieux and, of course, The Thorn Birds. I thought he did a decent job in that ABC TV remake of Night of the Hunter, but if the truth be told, my favorite Chamberlain performance was as the smarmy Roger in The Towering Inferno...he was so good in that movie. I may rewatch The Thorn Birds tonight though. RIP.
