Who do you think was the best and who do you think was the worst?

For me from what i have heard Nixon was pretty bad.

The best? Well people say JFK was a legend, but i have no infomation on him, so i would have to go with Bill Clinton. He seems like a nice guy. But Lincoln comes up there, he stoped slavery right?

The worst in my book is definitely Andrew Jackson. I have relatives who even refuse to carry a 20 dollar bill because his picture is on it...

I'll have to think about who I think is 'the best' for a while...

Woodrow Wilson - The WORST

This guy jailed political dissenters, created the Federal Trade Commission, got us into World War I. He also enacted the first federal income tax, the first modern military draft, and the first federal drug prohibition. Wilson also re-segregated the federal government. When blacks protested, he told them to consider segregation a "benefit," not a debasement.

What an ass.

geez, that's a bit much.

i don't know who i'd vote worst president. a few come to mine, though. i'd have to think about it a bit.

Welcome to the human race...
Bill Clinton? You've gotta be kidding. He's a disgrace to this country.
Go easy on the guy, dude. A, he's young. B, he's not even American. What does he know?

For the record, I'm young and not American too. Which makes me largely ineligible to make any sensible comment.

Not when those relatives are Tsalagi... You should read about Jackson's 'Indian Removal Act' that resulted in The Trail of Tears... then you might begin to understand a little of their reasoning....

i'm not saying its unreasonable to dislike or even hate a US President, especially due to your own personal convictions. i just think it'd be more trouble than its worth to avoid carrying around 20 dollar bills. at least for me!

Let's try to be broad-minded about this
Go easy on the guy, dude. A, he's young. B, he's not even American. What does he know?
In order to be the president you need to be American...

best president is definitely George Washington because he was a leading general in the Revolution and a key figure for our independence. Nixon was the worst because of watergate IMO

What the heck are you guys talking about? Bill Clinton is not American? The poster is not American?

And Bill Clinton is not a "disgrace." But I won't go into an in-depth defense of the man. I'm too tired from that other thread.

Andrew Jackson was a terrible man and was known as "Sharp Knife" or "Long Knife," by Native Americans. Yea, I think he should be removed from the $20 bill.

My vote for worst ever is probably Hoover and Bush, Jr.

The best: Lincoln. I'm not sure anyone can surpass that. Terrible times call for greatness. He certainly rose to that occasion. Besides, he wrote great speeches.

I am having a nervous breakdance
Since I'm not American I don't know too much about what presidents you got on your bills. But I agree that putting Andrew Jackson on a bill is a terrible humiliating insult to Native Americans. It might sound as an over reaction to some, but that kind of symbolism means a lot.

Again, I'm not American, but to me FDR is the best. He is as close to a social democrat as you could expect from an american president, and we Europeans obviously has Franklin D. Roosevelt to thank for a lot of things.

I was referring to King and his decision to refer to Clinton as one of the best.

A bit of a misunderstanding.

The People's Republic of Clogher
Surely the worst President has to be Useless Grant? Literally.

Sometimes the old gags are just as bad as the new ones...

He's certainly got the worst ancestral homestead (about 10 miles up the road from here) - very dull.

Caity - Jackson can't even get a good rep over here (we've sired 16 of your presidents and can allow a few to slip through the floorboards ) which probably tells you all you need to know.

So many good movies, so little time.
Best - Abraham Lincoln (no contest)

Worst - Tie : Warren Harding and Ulysses S. Grant (and maybe George W.)

I have a preference toward Clinton, although George H.W. Bush wasn't horrible, especially since either were MUCH better than the current sitting President.

Nixon seems too easy, much like Clinton though, it is largely a moral charge which neither "hurt" the American people, but rather gave largely to the buffet of popular culture.

Best: John F. Kennedy, mostly because like Obama signaled a new era for the U.S.

Worst: Sorry, I have to say W., not so much for what he was responsible for, but how he tried to justify, or distract away from it.

Nuff said, and even if he hadn't done that he would still be a pretty bad president.

As great as FDR was, he tried many a times (succeeded several times) to abuse executive power to get his agendas pushed through Congress. *cough*likeyouknowwho*cough* Thankfully, he was a good man, but I don't think I could say he was the best since he abused his power. Just doesn't sit right with the whole purpose of our government and the position of President.

My best vote would definitely have to be JFK. He was only in office for 1036 days, and while he didn't have any major policy changes, he did so much to inspire and drive the country in the right direction.

You make a good point, his intentions weren't destructive. I am glad to hear someone criticize FDR, without claiming he was a fascist maniac, as an utterance of his name usually stirs up the right-wing loonies. Plus, JFK was a great symbol for our country as is Obama. I really am hoping that Obama takes some cues from the Clinton years and uses the renewed political will he has been given to help forge policy between the parties.
