Any thoughts on which version of Apocalypse Now is better? I've heard good arguments for both.
Apocalypse now
I think the original version is the best. You understand a lot of things better in the redux-verison but I think it also took away the air of mystery that I love so much about the film. Redux is also way too long. The scene with the frenchmen is very beautiful but the love scene was so unnecessary.
Redux is great but not perfect. I think the original has it all!

They had temporarily escaped the factories, the warehouses, the slaughterhouses, the car washes - they'd be back in captivity the next day but now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.

The love scene is gay?
That is such a mature comment! I agree! The hetrosexual love scene is downright homosexual!
And while we're complaining, I would just like to mention that I thought the bit with the Playboy bunnies was bisexual! That scene was sexually attracted to girls and boys!

Apocalypse Now: Final Cut (2019) This is the latest version to be released, and is what Coppola calls the “definitive version” of the film. This version focuses on the balance between the original and the Redux versions, and is considered the “perfect” version of the film.

A really tough question. Apocalypse Now is a film that easily makes you want to see more material, and there are longer versions of it.
I like the original 2h 33min version, it's a long film, but still works in terms of the film's pacing. The Redux offers about an hour more material, but I think some scenes dull the film's atmosphere, for example the French plantation scene.
In its favor, the five-hour workprint offers several scenes that I think would have brought more content to the film. For example, the extensions of Willard's awakening and the initial interviews, the fate of the photojournalist played by Dennis Hopper, and Kurtz's outpost, a Khmer temple destruction at the end.
