Good movies, bad endings

Smells mystical, doesn't it?
Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes." It was good(ish) up until the ending. The horrible, horrible ending.
Lol. Good one bro.

In the Beginning...
I've talked a lot about these in various threads already, but here they are again.

The Ring
A genuinely spooky, thrilling film that's completely undone by the forced ending. I hate when writers drop the ball like this and take the provocative way out of a story they've worked hard to give credibility to.

Identity
Similar to The Ring, this one is a fairly spooky and enjoyable whodunnit with a great undertone of distorted reality. But again, the writer throws in a completely unfounded wrench for the sake of having a twist ending. Yawn.

The Departed
Such a great flick wasted. I realize it was adapted, as was The Ring, but jeez... the writer spent so much time setting up a very real world only to undo all of it with a terribly staged, terribly forced Shakespearean tragedy at the end. Pick a lane and stay in it!

The Mist
Screw you, Frank Darabont. I know one shouldn't expect to be particularly cheery after watching a horror film, but this one was just dirty and totally unnecessary. I want the rest of my day back.

Oh and No Country for Old Men. I understand the meaning behind it and know some people like it but just felt like such a disappointment for me
So how should it have ended?

Welcome to the human race...
The problem I have with The Departed's ending has to do with how it's changed from Infernal Affairs' original ending...

WARNING: "Departed/Internal Affairs" spoilers below
In IA the main rat-cop actually lives, but his life is still ruined by the events of the movie. TD goes for what could be considered a happy ending where Damon's bad cop gets killed, which feels way too much like an easy out - and don't even get me started on the appearance of an actual rat...

But yeah, The Departed is just one of those movies I do not like.

Knowing. I know a lot of people hated that film all the way through, but I feel like it excelled at creating suspense and mystery until the end.

I really liked all of the departed, but I wasn't too pleased with the ending of No Country for Old Men

When i watch movie i am wanna watch incredible ending of movie. But some time movies are so good the end is so bad. like saw,Adventure land, etc.

Must be doin sumthin right
Oliver Stone's Savages is a silly movie, but it has a really silly ending that produced this great loud, collective groan in the packed theater I saw it in. Probably never gonna watch it again, but I'll think of it fondly just for that moment

Commenting on some of the suggestions in this thread I must say I don't agree with all of them although it's obviously a matter of opinion and how you perceive them. I've tried not to include spoilers but you probably shouldn't read them if you haven't seen the films

Mystic River - I thought this was a great ending, one of the final scenes between Robbins and Penn is extremely powerful, and the last lines where Penn is looking down the street basically shows what he has been reduced to now because of the events and I think it is the last line (about Robbins) is very fitting.

The Departed -Thought it was pretty good as well, it's basically the harsh reality of the way the mafia operated and was inevitable after the final events began to unfold, the last scene with Wahlberg who was excellent was a good touch as well.

No Country for Old Men - I find most people who don't like the ending do not like the film which is fair enough, but the film is basically the portrayal of pure evil incarnate, Tommy Lee Jones talks about how times have changed and how bad things have become, he talks about his dreams which are far from evil and then he says he wakes up, he knows that he does not live in such a world and that reality is far from this happy world. Javier Bardem is excellent in his portrayal of Chigurh and perfectly portrays just pure evil, I'm glad this movie didn't go down the usual hero/final face-off route.

I think The Departed had a good, shakespearean ending. It really is a closure for the characters.

Yeah, the Robbins part is class, really ties the whole movie together but that's not the ending. Then we get to see Penn and Bacon have a little chat where basically Penn gives away the fact that he murdered Robbins. Then Bacon, a police officer walks off. After that, we see Penns wife, he is almost non-existent throughout the entire movie turn into this manipulative, Lady Macbeth type character...wtf??

To top it all off, Bacon, who I remind you is a police officer, sees the murdere Penn at a parade and they exchange knowing looks.
