The Thing From Another World (1951) VS. The Thing (1982)

I prefer the 1951 movie, but both are good.

Wilford Brimley's still alive? Holy Cow!

Believe it or not, dude was only 48 when he made The Thing and 50 when he made Cocoon.

The Thing. The original film was very good, but it had a feeling of 50's cheese that it couldn't fight, despite the high quality of special effects. You don't get 80's cheese with The Thing: you get special effects that are hard to rival by today's standards.

Oh okay, what 50s cheese was in the original? That's actually why I thought the original was surprisingly good, cause it feels like it's in a higher league compared to 50s sci fi movies like Them!, or Attack of the 50 Foot woman for example. Isn't it in a higher league, or no?

I'm a fan of the 1951 version. It had a helluva impact then. I liked the pacing and suspense.

The '82 version obviously had far superior special effects, but it was too busy. I enjoyed it, but it didn't have the class of Hawk's '51 drama.
