Just saw the film.. it was really good.
I would really recommend it, especially to war film fans.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Tears of the sun so far.. And to think of it, Inglourious Basterds?

Saving Private Ryan is probably the best for me. After that, it is really a toss up.

I think these movies are best of war movies which people really liked..

I didn't see the 1981 movie Das Boot in this list. If not, then it should be here. Great Wolfgang Petersen movie (nominated for 6 Oscars) about a German u-boat crew in WWII. Arguably, the best submarine movie ever made.

Anyway Das Boot has been on my list for long time.. & I call myself a war film fan?? I disgrace myself.

You certainly do, GP. I'm not a fan of war films, but Das Boot is brilliant. I'd also recommend seeing the mini-series.

"The sands of the sands of Iwo Jima" Not so much for the flag waving story but it mixed with real footage of the marines on the beach at Iwo Jima and I would not have liked to have been there. A nice twist at the end.

That is a very good list teamwork, but you almost have to subcategorize it by type of War.
