1940's Hall Of Fame Part I

Thanks for hosting Sean, and congrats to the winners!

I really enjoyed this HoF, and reading everyone's write ups. The same can be said of the others HoFs I've been in as well, but I was really into this one.

Really surprised how far down Shadow of a Doubt was and that it was below Rope. Personally i much preferred the former and thought it would be top three with The Little Foxes and Laura.

In that order!

Trouble with a capital "T"
Oh...I go off to do some work and the countdown is already over

All of the movies were of excellent quality, so congratulations to everyone for picking great films.

Thanks Sean for running it!

My list
1 Waterloo Bridge (Mervyn LeRoy 1940)
2 Laura (Otto Preminger 1944)
3 The Suspect (Robert Siodmak 1944)
4 Murderers Among Us (Staudte 1946)
5 Shadow Of A Doubt (Hitchcock 1943)
6 The Little Foxes ( William Wyler 1941)
7 How Green Was My Valley (John Ford 1941)
8 Rope (Alfred Hitchcock 1948)
9 Arsenic And Old Lace (Frank Capra 1944)
10 The Thief Of Bagdad (Michael Powell 1940)
11 Pursued (Raoul Walsh 1947)
12 Fantasia (Disney 1940)

Even the films at the end of my list were still well worth watching and I enjoyed them. No crappy movies here!

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
well, I gotta say, I AM surprised The Suspect came in at #3. Downright SHOCKED it was anywhere NEAR that high!!
That is so cool, THANKS everyone!!

And thanks Sean for hosting - FANTASTIC job

This has been a great cherry popping experiencefor me and a really great HOF for a first timer. Big fan of the 40's and quite a few movies I did not hear of or had seen and got to. YAY!!
CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ACROSS THE BOARD, this WAS awesome!! THANK YOU

My List:

#1 Murderers Are Among Us - this one is rated highest because it was the biggest surprise for me of how good it ended up being.
#2 Arsenic & Old Lace - PURE prejudice for this one. Favorite since childhood; could not, WOULD not let it go below this
#3 Waterloo Bridge - CR, you are not the ONLY one who loves a good torch song
#4 Laura - if not for the reasons stated, this would have easily been #1. Also a long time favorite of mine.
#5 The Suspect - As initially mentioned, a complete blind grab by me and such a little gem I couldn't let it go lower.
#6 Pursued
#7 Little Foxes
#8 Shadow of a Doubt
- these three were all brand new and could easily have been higher and are really tied across the board and I am and was VERY agravated to have SO MANY great flicks to chose over.
#9 Rope - one i enjoy and felt guilty for going low with
#10 How Green Was My Valley - even MORE guilty
#11 The Thief of Bagdad - was on and off on this one and sadly got left in the dust
#12 Fantasia - DID NOT expect to see this in last place when I first joined in and very sorry to place it there in the end

Thank You Sean for doing a great job running this HoF.

I'm very happy to see Laura win this HoF. I nominated it for the Film Noir HoF a while back, and I think it came in 4th place in that one. Congratulations Ðèstîñy. It's a deserving winner.

I'm also very happy to see Arsenic And Old Lace placed high in this HoF. I was sure that it would come in close to the bottom of the list, especially when I saw the other nominations, especially that there were two Hitchcock movies nominated.

2) Laura (Otto Preminger 1944)
3) Rope (Alfred Hitchcock 1948)
