You're a Genius all the time
So, yeah, somehow this doesn't already exist. List away, you Mofos.

Here's mine...

THE ROLLING STONES
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND
TALKING HEADS
RADIOHEAD
THE BEATLES
PIXIES
THE KINKS
SUBLIME
THE BUZZCOCKS
T REX

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Well, this almost seems to deserve individual threads like the one 7th did, but I can come up with 10 alright.

Beatles
Radiohead
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Roxy Music (through Siren)
Wire
Ramones
Undertones
Kinks
Smiths
eels

You're a Genius all the time
Yeah, I was thinking of cooking up a personal thread, but I don't really have the energy right now to delve into all that jazz, so I went this route instead and just added a buttload of pretty colors. Plus, I'm pretty curious to see some of you other Mofos' lists.

Sweet choices, Mark.

I'm not a huge Eels fan, but this is probably the greatest music video ever.

My personal rule is each artist has to have at least two great LPs. Otherwise I could list a hundred bands.

Older bands:

Jethro Tull
Queen
Blue Oyster Cult
Aerosmith
The Kinks
Devo

Everybody's favorite, but I still LOVE em:

Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin

Newer bands:

Pixies (nobody comes close)
Frank Black (except maybe him)
Smashing Pumpkins
The Tragically Hip
Kings of Leon
Camper van Beethoven
The Connells
Crystal Method
Anthrax
Mazzy Star
Megadeth
Metallica
The Silos
They Might Be Giants
The Jayhawks

I love Eels, but not quite enough to list them as an all-time favorite. Same with T-Rex.

I just noticed this is a top ten list. I apologize for my breaking of the rules; I was vaguely thinking of favorite bands. Sorry.

Well I'll have to give this some more thought and come back but for now I'm gonna go with:

1. Foetus - Ache; Nail; Hole; Thaw
2. Einstürzende Neubauten - Zeichnungen des Patienten O. T.; 1/2 Mensch; Ende Neu
3. Butthole Surfers - A Brown Reason to Live; Psychic, Powerless, Another Man's Sac; Rembrandt Pussyhorse; Hairway to Steven
4. The Residents - Duck Stab; The Commercial Album
5. The Misfits - Walk Among Us and various songs
6. Can (Damo Suzuki era) - put together the good songs from Tago Mago, Future Days, Soundtracks, and Ege Bamyasi and you have some great music.
7. The Birthday Party - Junkyard; Hee Haw
8. The Pogues - first three albums
9. AFX - Richard D. James; I Care Because You Do; Selected Ambient Works vol.2; Drukqs; Analords/Chosen Lords
10. Yellow Magic Orchestra - Solid State Survivor; Technodelic

Can't pick ten. I just can't.

Ironically, it'd probably be a lot easier to pick just a few, because a few bands generally rise above the rest for me. My favorite, bar none, is Spoon. Has been for some time, and figures to be for the forseeable future. Dunno exactly who I'd put in second, but probably The Comas.

After that, it gets really murky. I'm actually a really big Michael Jackson fan, inasmuch as I can forget how freaky the guy is, and as bland an answer as it may be, I think the world of U2. And I've been on a big Tom Petty kick lately. And while I don't know where they'd go, the Red Hot Chili Peppers would certainly be in my top ten.

There are a couple of others, like Project Jenny, Project Jan and The Beta Band that are a bit more obscure, but I find myself coming back to every few months.

So, yeah...after the first two, it just becomes a big mis-mash of about half a dozen bands that I can't really rank consistently. Those top two tend to stay where they are, however.

- Pink Floyd
- The Who
- Dire Straits
- 3 Doors Down
- The Beatles
- The Beach Boys
- Queen
- Santana (not really a band, but ok)
- Iron Maiden
- Incubus

You know what, this is actually kind of hard to do. My taste for music fluctuates, there was a time i was crazy about 3doors down, iron maiden and after that the who. It basically comes down to this list, but in no specific order, because taste for music is an ever changing thing in me

It is hard to do, there are some bands that I don't listen to nearly as much as I used to. I mean these days I pretty much only listen to Hole when I'm in the mood for Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel, but I have such fond memories of all those other albums, and they were the first time I ever memorized all the lyrics and songs and listened to them enough that I could pick out a song just after a couple seconds of random playtime, so on the list it goes.

I still really think much of J.G. Thirwell's stuff is funny, and I admit it takes me back to the eighth grade when I first heard it and thought it was the cleverest, most obnoxiously-awesome stuff ever:

"Water everywhere can't see the horizon
Can't even be washed up or beached
Not even a tern to keep my eyes on
Shouldn't of practiced what Beelzebub preached...
...I'm condemned to eternal water torture
this time the decider has shown no quarter
Just got a backyard coathanger job from the
Sinner-sorter, Soul-aborter"

and from Satan Place:

"Dancin on the pipes of pandemonium
second on the left after the bottomless pit
My death's given birth to a life beyond worth
I'm mo ride the wild surf in the bowels of the earth
I'm hangin 10, on the final tidal wave in hell
i'm the last surfer in hell (he's the last surfer in hell)
Cowabunga!"

1. The Cranberries
2. Sweetwater
3. The Jefferson Airplane
4. No Doubt
5. Evanescence
6. Janis Joplin(Big Brother and the Holding Company)
7. Hole
8. Heart
9. Fleetwood Mac
10.Amazombies

3. THE BEATLES

4. PINK FLOYD

5. TALKING HEADS

6. CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL

7. CROSBY, STILLS & NASH
7.......and sometimes YOUNG

8. LED ZEPPELIN

9. THE DOORS

10. VELVET UNDERGROUND

Just missed my cut: The Kinks, The Who,
Sly and the Family Stone, The Allman Brothers Band,
The Ramones, The Beach Boys, The Police and Cream. And a
couple I didn't consider "bands" as their identity, though surely they
are: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band

I'd say my list is fairly flexible, save the top three. And you can tell when I stopped listening to new music, eh? I know it's boring to have The Stones and The Beatles up near the top...but they're The Stones and The Beatles, whatareyougonnado?!?

Creedence Clearwater Revival

The Animals
Pink Floyd

Jimi Hendrix
The Doors
Led Zeppelin
