80s movie with soldiers marching to a cadence

Tools

I seem to recall watching a move - probably from the '80s , probably a comedy-that features a group of soldiers running or marching to the cadence:
"I don't know but I believe, I'll be home by Christmas Eve.
Sound off, 1-2, Sound off 3-4!"
Anyone recall the movie??

I've changed the thread title to be more descriptive, per the warning beneath the title field:

This is presumably why you had to try so many titles: because all of them were vague/didn't tell the reader anything about what you were looking for.

thanks!

Stripes?

Full Metal Jacket?

haha...thanks. that's the idea....but not the "song" I'm looking for.
I wonder if there are any more 'cadence' scenes in Stripes...

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.

I don't know if this will help, but I found this by searching Google.

One style was done in the movie "Battleground" and was recorded as "Sound ... I don't know but I believe, I'll be home by Christmas Eve.

The problem is that the thread on that website is so old that it doesn't seem to exist anymore. Also, the only war movie with the title "Battleground" is from 1949.

There's a 1990 movie called Cadence, although I haven't seen it:

You’re not dreaming.

Heard it, while I was in the Philippines, in the sixties, over the radio. Must be a WW2 cadence.
Anyone know the complete cadence?

Note that it is pretty standard for American servicemembers (all uniformed services!) to sing cadences when marching (or running). Also for ROTC groups in colleges. Potentially any movie that has Americans marching could have a cadence. Cadences have been used this way by the American armed forces since 1944.
The one you are talking about seems ironic to me. I am guessing the characters were expecting to be home by Christmas Eve, but then weren't. This might help us determine what war it was.
