I like both almost equally. I rate both 8/10. I would give a slight edge to The Night of the Hunter.

Both films are excellent, but I'd give the edge to Touch of Evil.

Same here. I think The Night of the Hunter has the braver concept, especially for its time.

For me it's Night of the Hunter and it isn't even close.

I admire many things about Touch of Evil, but Night of the Hunter gets right into your bones. Chillllllllldrennnnnnnnn.

No Oscar nominations for either movie.

I've never seen Touch of Evil, but I LOVED Night of the Hunter...Mitchum was bone-chilling.

Yeah, I'm another "Both" in this one. I love the end of ToE so much that it makes the movie stand up to NotH quite well.

Having watched it at the cinema I have Touch of Evil down as the greatest American film.
I think Night of the Hunter is OK, but it doesn't make my top 300.

Probably Touch of Evil.
