You totally should! It's hard to believe the original Universal horror films are almost 100 years old. They still stand up quite well, imho.

I think he's very good director.  I loved Upgrade and I went into that film knowing very little about it. I like his spin on The Invisible Man. You know a director is good when he picks actors you tend to hate based on the character they play. I don't like Oliver Jackson-Cohen.[/quote]

That’s an interesting take but I do agree. I didn’t like ‘Invisible Man’ much but could still appreciate what it’s trying to do, to a degree. His other stuff I like much more. ‘Upgrade’ is great. ‘Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ is such an unusual one to pick, too. I quite liked the Dougray Scott version with its odd homoerotic vibes, but I feel like Whannell should be able to do a much better job.[/quote]

That’s fair. I had quite an in-depth discussion with Takoma about Whannell’s ‘The Invisible Man’ back when it first came out, but in a nutshell, the way it was made political just didn’t work for me on that occasion, even though I’m very alive to the issues raised. I just felt it was too much of a departure from the core narrative.
