This is a "controversial" one that's bugged me a long time - in Superman II, there is a photo hanging in Perry White's office.
For years I thought it was a photo of O.J. Simpson (and I still think it might be), but now it appears that it may have been a photo of Bill Cosby.

Found this on the net (saying it's Bill Cosby).

But the photo is hung over a cup trophy of some kind (possibly a sports trophy)? Is the trophy supposed to indicate a sports link?

Can anyone clear this up once and for all?

According to the trivia on IMDB for Superman II, it's Bill Cosby.

There is a framed photo of Bill Cosby on a wall in Perry White's office. In one of his early stand-up performances Cosby did a skit about Superman. It can be heard on his 1963 comedy album "Bill Cosby Is A Very Funny Fellow Right!"

Thanks GB!

I know I've been to that trivia section before (but probably not in many years), so maybe I missed the info previously or maybe it's an entry made since then.

Anyway, there you go! An odd cameo of sorts: Bill Cosby "appeared" in Superman II (not that anyone's going to be excited or astonished by that... maybe some people currently will feel a bit dismayed by it.) Interesting that it's there BECAUSE Cosby did a skit about Superman - I never knew that.

I noticed the photo as soon as I had a copy of the movie (I got the box set several years back) and thought it was OJ. I assumed it was supposed to represent that Perry White had connections in professional sports (as Simpson was still a pro-football star and had begun to appear as an actor in movies at the time Superman was made).

It's kind of a weird coincidence that the picture looks like both Bill Cosby and OJ Simpson because they were both very popular back then, and they are both pretty much hated now.

Speaking of movie critics... Leonard Maltin gave Gremlins a damning review... and he was asked to appear in Gremlins 2 as a movie critic in one of those funny cutaway scenes...

Since I watched My Bodyguard (1980) the other night it reminded me of an offbeat cameo.

In the movie Drillbit Taylor (2008), three bullied teenagers are conducting interviews for a bodyguard, among the applicants is Adam Baldwin (he played Ricky Linderman in My Bodyguard and he is NO relation to the Hollywood Baldwins).

When Baldwin shows up in Drillbit Tayor he only says, "Kids hiring a bodyguard to take care of a bully? Stupidest thing I ever heard." Before his cameo ends he only says, "Not interested." which was the same exact line he first gave to the kid who wanted to hire him in My Bodyguard.

This is just weird - I looked at Career Opportunities (1991) for a moment because it happened to be on, and I thought I'd get a quick look at Jennifer Connelly. In the movie, the kid puts his picture over that of the "employee of the month" which happens to be a photo of John Candy! And what's weird is a few people on this site have been talking about John Candy lately.
I went to IMDB to look the appearance up and indeed, John Candy had an uncredited cameo in this movie!

I'm not a fan of the movie Alien, but I love that scene in Spaceballs.

Your mention of it the other day prompted me to watch it, gb, when I saw it listed On-Demand. IMO, it's one of the weaker comedies in the Mel Brooks collection and it relies almost 99% on a knowledge of Star Wars (without that, there aren't many jokes or gags that are even remotely funny). In other words, Spaceballs is a spoof on a single movie whereas something like Blazing Saddles is a spoof on an entire genre. (But then, I guess the same criticism could be made of Young Frankenstein which, IMO, is a classic compared to Spaceballs.)

But I was surprised to see the real John Hurt doing the chest-buster scene, and it was funny when, as his chest is ripping open, he says, "not again!"

I'll agree that it's mostly a spoof of Star Wars, but not only a spoof of Star Wars. But as a fan of Star Wars, it's my favorite Mel Brooks movie.
