Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1962) - Robert Aldrich

Precisely the kind of thriller I love...It obviously reminds one of "Misery" and Kathy Bates was better than Bette Davis even if marginally...

8 out of 10
No she wasn't. Bates was better in Dolores Claiborne imo, and Davis was better than either

Glad you liked Dog Day Afternoon but disappointed you didn't enjoy this, I can understand why, but I think it's an excellently crafted film.
^This^

There again, lots of subplots, names and details etc is exactly the kind of thing I like. Which is one of the reasons I often prefer tv to film now.

I love Tinker Tailer Solider Spy too, but mostly because of my man-crush on Gary Oldman.

Colin Firth is good in the film too.

Cool Hand Luke (1967)

Repeat viewing

Better than I remembered, although I thought the second half was a step down from the first. I think the whole super cool image of this film about a man who won't conform is slightly exaggerated, but that's probably a good thing for the sake of realism. Nice performances, and some terrific, memorable scenes.

I didn't make it through all of this last night, but seeing as how I am on a proper device...

It amazes the level of talent and quality that is put into "animated" movies. I have enjoyed every minute of it so far and can see why this is one of the greatest batman stories.

Peter Weller as the voice of the Knight is superb.

Starship Troopers (1988) OVA

Really meh 5/10, the animation was pretty bad and its played straight all the time. The Hollywood version is way better, though a satire of the original novel.

I tried to watch that movie but the art was so simple that it hurt my eyes. I have no major problem with low framerates but when the art is bad it ruins the experience, a problem I also had with Starship Troopers (1988) because the artwork of the characters was really crude:

Modern anime has incredibly detailed art even low budget TV series like Muv Luv:

Really makes one spoiled when watching old or non Japanese animated stuff.

Since I've heard a lot said on the forum recently about Dog Day Afternoon and Cool Hand Luke, I've currently got them shooting down my phone line for me to view at my leisure.

Finished here. It's been fun.

Re-Animator
+

Twisted, cynical, morbidly funny, and has some breathtakingly cool practical effects. Also has the perfect runtime, clocking in at under 85-minutes. Loved it.

Just curious, but have you seen Gerald Scarfe's animation in Pink Floyd's The Wall movie? Though disturbing, it's extremely well-done.

Also have you seen either of Martin Rosen's films? To me they're the definition of raw-yet-beautiful animation.

Both are old, non-Japanese animation.

The Lord of the Rings (I don't count it as three films, just one film cut into three parts. Just like the original book)

Yes, some parts are quite slow but they are completely necessary for the amazing story and unforgettable characters. In fact, they're not characters, they're real people you care about (obviously they don't exist) whom are trying to save the world. What makes them all lovable is their unbreakable bond of friendship and love for each other and their ultimate commitment and bravery to save Middle Earth from Sauron. You really want them to succeed because the world that J.R.R Tolkien created is so amazing and unique, he dedicate his entire life to Middle Earth; Peter Jackson not only gave him justice but his world and characters too. It just gets better and better every time I watch it. The soundtrack..... no words can describe how perfect it is. There's no other film out there that has made me cry like a baby because I was so happy for the main characters at the end, I'm not even exaggerating, I cried like a baby. The film has also helped for my inspiration to make my own story, I want it to inspire other people like it did for me. There's a reason why Lord of the Rings is so popular, it's not a movie, it's an experience.

10/10, the best film I have ever seen.

Poltergeist
(2015, USA)
Directed by Gil Kenan
Produced by Sam Raimi
6.5/10

Believe it or not, it was not crappy. Most thought it would be lame. It had some scenes that were good jump scares which is what a horror film should be. Insidious and this has the same feel to it. It could have lasted longer actually.
