Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
I watched The Lobster in 2015, but it's eligible for the next Oscars. it wouldn't make a best list of mine for any year though.

Subject to revision since I have not seen some films that have received very good word of mouth.

1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
2. Hell or High Water
3. Deadpool
4. 10 Cloverfield Lane
5. Nocturnal Animals
6. The VVitch
7. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
8. Captain America: Civil War
9. Arrival
10. Star Trek Beyond

Noway this stays the same once I have seen more of the good films of 2016. The bottom half will almost certainly have to go.

Edit: First alteration already. Nocturnal Animals enters my list at number 5, Arrival and Star Trek Beyond switch places and Suicide Squad gets kicked out of the Top 10 list. Still, haven't seen La La Land and a few other well-received films.

I haven't seen any of the year-enders (R1, La La Land, Manchester by the Sea) but I can attest that 2016 was not one for the books. I enjoyed the Accountant, was let down by the Nice Guys and saw one really great movie that I will break my own rule against owning movies and go buy.

Most people clearly don't rate Fantastic Beasts as highly as I do. For me, it was a wonderful trip back to the place I adore most - the wizarding world. JK Rowling is not only one of the greatest storytellers of our time - she's a quality screenwriter, which is shown in this film. My best movie experience of the year.

I haven't officially made a decision on what one is better in the top two. You'll have to cut me some slack at the bottom of my list. I could be seeing another film next week.

Just giving you a hard time. Looks like I need to see two horror flicks this year. Don't Breathe and VVitch.
