The Little Stranger (2018)

Ruth Wilson and the general atmosphere were good. Weirdly paced though, which is not the case for the book, and goes over the same flashback too many times.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)

What was up with 2017 and using John Denver as a central plot device?

I saw what you did with that rating.

This might just do nobody any good.
I realized the Elton John factor was all the movie really had going on for it.

Excellent movie with an annoying, overpowering soundtrack.

Do you know what a roller pigeon is, Barney? They climb high and fast, then roll over and fall just as fast toward the earth. There are shallow rollers and deep rollers. You can’t breed two deep rollers, or their young will roll all the way down, hit, and die. Officer Starling is a deep roller, Barney. We should hope one of her parents was not.

Silent Running 1972 Re-Watch

Sadly did not age well, and a bit heavy on the 'Flower Power' sauce..
Wouldn't mind a remake, the story and message are still very relevant..

Happy Death Day 2 U

What the heck is going on here? We have a sequel to Happy Death Day??? Even crazier is the fact that this movie is just as or possibly more fun than the original? Or how about this for crazy....my wife chose this movie over Alita: Battle Angel and They Shall Not Grow Old. Yet...EVEN CRAZIER MY FRIENDS....MY WIFE CRIED DURING THIS MOVIE. I REPEAT, SHE CRIED EMOTIONAL TEARS DURING THIS MOVIE!!!

The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl! -

should've been the token anime nomination at the Oscars instead of Mirai if you ask me

Iro's Top 100 Movies v3.0

Probably 15th or 16th rewatch...my # 2 favorite film of all time featuring the finest work of Elizabeth Taylor and Mike Nichols. And Burton was robbed of the Best Actor Oscar. Amazing film and, for my money, the Best Picture of 1966.

"Honor is not in the Weapon. It is in the Man"

: Best way to describe the film? Halloweentown as if made for adults, set in a world where humans and monsters are co-existing. There are some laugh out loud moments and I thought this was a fun film with a cast including Bruce Davison, Leslie Easterbrook, Tyler Mane, Gilbert Gottfried, and Malcolm McDowell.

You mean me? Kei's cousin?

Watched it twice back to back, first with the Japanese hypersonic track and then with the Streamline dub, in preparation for reviewing it. You can read the review over here if interested.

The whole dub is still on YouTube, so I decided to introduce Mom to this one - having WiFi meant I finally could, surmising that she'd enjoy it after how much she liked Wolf Children from the same director, Mamoru Hosoda; I can't wait to check out his Summer Wars and Mirai myself and he certainly has a chance at becoming one of my favorite directors. I think it was actually even better the second time around. I couldn't help noticing this time how much it gets right - Makoto does everything a teenager would do if they found out they could leap through time, like going back to ace that test, going back to the time you had your favorite dinner, and of course, going back to eat your snack before your greedy sister could - I especially love Makoto's reaction to the latter, dubbing her a "brat," though I'll admit to having been even harsher about it since I seem to distinctly remember calling mine a "selfish bastard" after she ate my pizza and didn't leave me a single slice, not even a crumb. I was especially cocky at that age, like a hybrid of Shotaro Kaneda and Asuka Langley, so it's probably a good thing I never figured out how to time-leap, or else I'd have had to learn the hard way like Makoto does.

Again, the whole dub is still on YouTube, so I introduced her to this one; she did like Trigun as well. I'm still amazed by how the new insurance girls sound just like the original insurance girls; if Funimation re-dubbed the original show and used them, I really wouldn't mind. Luci Christian, who dubs Meryl here, has really impressed me recently as Nami in One Piece and Hani-senpai in Ouran High School Host Club, the latter of which also has Caitlin Glass rising up the list of my favorite voice actors. And Trigun was what sold me on Johnny Yong Bosch as a voice actor and made me re-examine the Pioneer dub of Akira; he's really surprised me as 14-year-old Chakuro in Children of the Whales where he sounds just like a kid - shows just how much he can stretch himself. I also couldn't help noticing this time around that Gendo Ikari (father of Shinji) himself John Swasey was a perfect choice to dub Gasback, especially when the character's history comes out. Later, guys. Gotta go - Mom's hounding me to watch TV with her.

This was on Netflix and I hadn't seen it in a while so I decided to rewatch it and I was especially eager to see it again after hearing that Netflix has the 1991 Streamline dub, the only Streamline dub of a Miyazaki film that's still widely available, and really aside from their Akira dub, one of the very few dubs they released back then in general that's still widely available. It's the default track on Netflix, so getting to it wasn't a problem. Miyazaki's very first film is still a blast and it was even better the second time around; of course, the HD transfer Netflix utilizes here is a big upgrade over the non-anamorphic DVD I first saw it on. Bob Bergen, who would dub the iconic thief in several more projects, is excellent as Lupin, called the Wolf here to avoid copyright issues since there was another character by the name (actually this Lupin's grandfather) and Streamline wasn't in a hurry to get sued; for the record, Lupin literally means wolf so it's not a big deal; it actually works when you consider his reputation. The same can be said of J.C. Henning as Clarisse and the rest of the cast and the dub script is completely natural. Though it's been a while since my first viewing when I checked the old DVD out from the library, if I had to go by memory, the Manga dub is just as good; for those who prefer Manga's effort, Netflix probably has it since they offer multiple audio choices on their anime line-up. I'm still not sure if I outright prefer one over the other myself; both dubs are very good and match the film's generally light-hearted tone. So, yes, Miyazaki's first film still delivers even with its 40th birthday fast approaching. Later, guys.
