Robert Downey Jr cast as Doctor Doom

Kudos to MovieGal and FilmBuff for breaking the news on the forum.

Not only am I a movie buff, but also was a comic book collector for years. When it was all said and done my favorite hero ended up being Thor, and my favorite villain was Doctor Doom.

Regardless what Gearge Lucas will or won't confess to stealing, Darth Vader was the most accurate portrayal of what Doctor Doom was supposed to be like. All interpretations done by past Marvel movies rang hollow, painfully desperate. If I were to cast the perfect actor to play Doctor Doom my choice would have always been Mads Mikkelson. Never did I dream that they would cast RDJ to play the greatest villain in the history of comic books.

Downey said he likes to play complex characters. Well Victor Von Doom makes Tony Stark look like a Sunday school teacher.
He singularly would face the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and other assorted heroes at the same time, and walk away.
One day out of the year he would war against Mephisto (MARVELs version of the Devil) to free his mother's soul.
He was a master of robotics and engineering at least on par with Tony Stark. Even the Marvel Universe regarded his intellect greater then Reed Richards and Stark.
He practiced magic, using the dark arts to achieve whichever goal he had at the time.
He successfully led a revolution and is the ruler of a country called Latveria.
Here's the best part....he is a man. Not a mutant, no magic gimmick, nor an alien. He had the most indominatable willpower and a complete megalomaniac (his true weakness).

RDJ will have alot of fun with this, and we are in for a treat. Anytime a great known actor decides to play a villain it's memorable, Henry Fonda in Once Upon A Time in the West, AL Pacino in The Devils Advocate, Gary Oldman in Coppolas Bram Stokers Dracula, and etc...

I'm happy lol! ::

I'm not MovieGal, lol

No, but I did post about it before you!
Nope, you didn't. I was following the ComicCon panel live and posted it in real time.

Just announced at ComicCon: the 6th Avengers film will be titled Avengers Secret Wars

Robert Downey Jr is set to return to the MCU in Avengers 5 and 6 as Victor Von Doom.

You cannot make this stuff up!!!

In a different thread than what Tongo read.
Yes, because RDJ isn't supposed to be in the Fantastic Four movie... which is where you posted it.

And then you posted in the same thread.
Ok, but you still weren't the first person to mention it. Not that any of it matters, really. We're all going to get to enjoy the movie all the same

There. I gave you both credit. Didn't mean to cause any toxicity over this, my bad.
Awwwwww that's sweet of you, thank you!

And just to clear up another apparent misunderstanding - RDJ is supposed to appear in Avengers 5 and 6 - but is NOT supposed to be in the Fantastic Four movie (officially at least)

I'm not feeling it.

First we had the Human Torch who became Captain America, now we've got Iron Man becoming Dr. Doom. (Hey, I just realized the similarity: RDJ playing another character in a suit of iron.)

Despite that, RDJ just seems wrong for the role - we need someone imposing under the armor and with a deep voice like James Earl Jones!
Just kidding, but I always say the best depiction of Doom so far on film has been in the Star Wars franchise!

It would be preferable to have someone with an Eastern European accent this time - after all, Victor Von Doom was a gypsy from the fictional Eastern European country of Latveria who grows up to become monarch of the country via intimidation & conquest.

Doom is a serious character, full of pain & pathos. RDJ, typecast as he is, rarely comes off as that dramatic - he's still got his past as a comedic actor following closely behind him - which may have helped him as a wise-cracking version of Tony Stark, but we don't need a wise-cracking Doom.

RDJ literally just won an Oscar for playing a villain with a southern drawl. Pretty sure he can play a villain with an Eastern European accent

Maybe. I just know his British accent never sounded too convincing.

But then, Marvel has never been too keen on accents: 3 X-Men movies with Storm (a native African) where she had an American accent - she didn't sound like she was supposed to until a prequel. Same with Colossus (he didn't sound Russian until the Deadpool movies). The Black Widow seemed American - I didn't see all the movies, but in most of the Avengers films she had no Russian accent. But then we got a British Professor X and Magneto (neither of whom were supposed to be British) - yet characters of their caliber always seem to sound better with a British accent.

Good thing Doctor Doom ain't a Brit!

You're the one who raised issue with it. You don't have a copyright to the info here, and you had no problem with posting things other people already did before. You're not gonna "stand out" here so just accepting being another user. This isn't a place to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, so stop feeling so challenged about anything that barely relates to you.

RDJ will not play him the same way as he did Tony Stark. He's simply too talented and doing so would bore him. IMO he was phoning-it-in somewhat as Stark. An eastern european meglamaniacal mastermind dictator should be so far from Iron Man people should forget making the comparison.

Oh yeah - 100%

The SDCC reveal is already one of the top 15 most-viewed videos ever on Instagram

I agree that Mads Mikklesen would be a much better choice (plus, he hasn't already played a Marvel character, has he?)
