I'll reveal the lie......

1) I chatted with Frank Gorshin on a flight to Las Vegas
2) I had a telephone conversation with Patty Duke.
3) I met Robin Williams and Jerry Reed on the set of a movie they were filming together.

The lie is number 1. Congratulations From Beyond and beelzebubble! Nice going!

Although I did see Frank Gorshin at the airport I did not speak with him. He was waiting in the lobby for his flight to arrive. He was travelling with a group of people.

Now for the Truths..........

2) One night in September, many years ago, I was watching the Jerry Lewis Telethon for muscular dystrophy (remember those?) with my parents. I was 7 years old. My parents made donations to the cause every year. Celebrities were answering the telethon phones. Patty Duke was one of the celebrities and answered when my mother called. My mom thought it would be cute if I made the donation so she asked Patty Duke if I could. Patty said yes and my mom gave the phone to me. I knew who Patty Duke was because I watched re-runs of The Patty Duke Show all the time. The re-runs were airing on TV back then. Patty introduced herself to me. I made the donation, Patty thanked me and continued speaking with me. She was very sweet. She asked me my name, my age, and how I was doing in school. Before ending the call Patty told me I'm a very nice boy and she enjoyed talking with me. I was thrilled! I will always remember that night.

3) When the movie The Survivors was being filmed some scenes were shot in the town of Whitestone, New York which was one town over from where I lived. The local papers announced when the filming would begin there. My friends and I went to the house where the exterior shots were taken. We were amazed at the activity going on. There was a large crowd of onlookers already gathered behind the barriers. Crew members were setting up and moving things around. An actor was practicing going up and down the front steps of the house. The mom of one of my friends arrived later and was irritated about how many times the crew were cleaning the house's front bay window. "Can't they get the glass clean already? Sheesh!". A little while later Robin Williams, Jerry Reed and Walter Matthau appeared. Robin Williams and Jerry Reed were great to the fans. Robin did impressions and entertained everyone. Jerry Reed was very personable too. He signed autographs, exchanged some chit-chat and shook hands including mine. So did Robin. Walter Matthau on the other hand was unsociable. He ignored the crowd and had a scowl on his face the whole time. He brought his teen-aged daughter on the set and she (very!) rudely shoo-ed people away who tried to get her father's attention. It was a very interesting and memorable event.
