Borderlands (2024)

There's a cool poster out, too

Looks a load of silly fun. I've never played the games, so can't compare.

Although I'm amused at all the complaints I've seen about Cate Blanchett getting the role of Lillith because she is too old and the character in the games is younger...

I'd rather not have Kevin Hart in there...

It looks EXACTLY like the games! Like, I don't even care if it's the worst movie ever as long as I get to see the Borderlands universe in the real world.

Having a late-summer release date isn't giving me much confidence in this. Many studios typically send stuff to the late summer when they aren't very confident in the film.

On the other hand, if the movie is actually good and connects with audiences, it could enjoy a fairly lengthy run in theaters.

So, I am going to be cautiously optimistic and hope it's a case of the latter.

Wow. This could be a thing. Really seems derivative of GotG (or some other zany, neon, AM Gold soundtracked movie), but that doesn't matter if it's good. Unless there are 132 needledrops, then maybe not so much. Wish Claptrap's voice was closer to the game, but it's still better than I thought.

Ive played most of the Games. Cant wait to see the movie

^ This is literally the answer to the question:

"Why does Hollywood reboot other things and not have it's own original ideas?"

Ewww, this is winceworthy.
Rotten Tomatoe score of 9%.
Roughly a $115 million budget, and an opening weekend of $8.8 million in the US.

Hard Fail. Personally I've played the game and wasn't inspired whatsoever after seeing the trailer. Just looked like a desperate bid to imitate GOTG formula for presentation. Formulas are overrated, freshness is priceless.

Welcome to the human race...
most "reshot and re-edited for a pg-13 rating" movie ever made?

As soon as the casting of Kevin Hart was announced, you knew this one was heading in the wrong direction.

“Hey kids, you wanna see Kevin Hart playing Kevin Hart in a Mtn Dew Mad Max movie!?!”

What an absolute dumpster fire of a movie this was. I have no idea about the source game that it was based on, but as a movie this was just about as bad as adaptations can get. Dreadful writing and direction, it's unfunny, Jack Black's 'Claptrap' has to be the most annoying and unfunny presence in a movie that I can remember in a long, long time, and the thing is, it's not just that, it's also boring. I heard that this movie was originally shot in 2021, and then they did reshoots last year, and yet this is still as good as they could make it, and Eli Roth, who directed, co-wrote and came up with this story seriously has to carry the can for this. A genuine contender for worst of the year - and something is going to have to be pretty spectacularly bad to be worse than this. Dreadful.
