The MoFo Top 100 Musicals Countdown

Two more donuts for me.

I've seen Amadeus and I remember liking it a lot, but to be honest, I didn't consider it as a musical.

As a Puerto Rican, I should probably see tick, tick... BOOM! but I just haven't found the time.
I don’t consider Amadeus a musical either. LOVED tick tick BOOM

I'm getting the feeling there's going to be a lot of near-musicals in this countdown. Probably because there's not alot of musical lovers here.

Never seen or even heard of that version of CinderellaThe Meaning of Life is one of the better Python films I’ve seen, but I’m not really that big of a fan despite loving British humor.

Tick, tick… BOOM! was on my list. I haven’t seen a huge amount of musicals, but this one really stood out to me as unique, inspiring and really well made.

I love Amadeus but didn’t see it as a musical and therefore didn’t vote for it.

I haven't seen Tick, Tick...Boom!.

Amadeus wasn't on my ballot since it didn't occur to me it was a musical, but it's excellent and would've been in my top 10 had I considered it as such.

Tick Tick Boom was 4 for me. Thank God I put in that high as it would have really been a shame to see it miss. Thankfully @MovieMeditation came in through the clutch to get it on here as well!

I've not seen Tick Tick Boom Boom

Saw Amadeus once and didn't like it. Rock Me Amadeus is pretty cool though.

If Dr. Zaius was eligible, I probably would have voted for it. But I'm guessing fictitious stage musicals that appear in an episode of a TV show weren't eligible.

By "guessing," I mean, "of course they obviously were not."

I really liked tick tick . . . BOOM, and it was on my list. I thought it was very funny and I really like that the starting point of the film is the main character doing "the big thing" . . . only to be told that in this business, "the big thing" is just the beginning.

I grew up on musicals, as my mom was a huge fan and was always watching them. Even though I grew up liking the genre, I confess it was almost never the musicals she likes. The Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, and Gene Kelly movies are far too squeaky clean for my taste.

I also grew up on the Muppets, which also fed into my love of random music numbers.

So far:

Seen 3 out of 4
List 0 out of 25

I forgot the opening line.
98. tick, tick... BOOM! (2021) - This one has been on my radar big time, but I simply haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Sometimes you just have to make it happen because you never cross paths with a movie you fully intend to see when you get the chance.

97. Amadeus (1984) - One of the all time great films. I don't think I've ever heard it described as a musical before, although I can nearly see it as such if I narrow my eyes and stretch both the definition of "musical" and the different ways you can describe this movie. Amadeus is exceedingly good in every department, and a stunning cinematic achievement. I love it, and I've seen it many times.

Seen 2/4
Never knew about 1/4

Latest Review : The Mob (1951)

#100 - Cinderella (1965)
I love this version of Cinderella, and I specifically asked about the eligibility of TV versions of musicals, and I was told that they were not eligible, so it was immediately removed from my potential list at the time, and I didn't vote for it.

I can't say with 100% certainty that it would have made my final list, but it had a very good chance if I knew it would have been allowed.

I'm glad to see that it made the list anyway, but I wish the eligibility rules had been clearer or enforced better.

#99 - The Meaning of Life (1983)
I've seen several Monty Python movies, but Monty Python just isn't my type of comedy.

#98 - tick...tick...BOOM! (2021)
I watched tick...tick...BOOM! for this countdown and I liked the movie a lot, but the music was just okay. If this was a countdown for favorite movies, it might have had a chance of making my list, but as a musical, I didn't consider it for my list.

#97 - Amadeus (1984)
I watched Amadeus a while back, but I didn't really like it much. I also didn't think it would have been eligible for this list because if I remember correctly, the music was instrumentals, not songs that were sung.

And we're off!
I remember really liking Cinderella as a kid, particularly for Lesley Ann Warren but it's been so long that I didn't rewatch, therefore didn't put it on my list. And despite really liking The Meaning of Life, I remember it more for the comedy bits than I do for the songs so I didn't consider it. Nice to see both of them on here.

Tick, Tick...Boom! is one I've heard of but have had no real desire to see.
Amadeus is a movie I love and F. Murray Abraham gives one of the greatest all-time film performances, IMO. But despite there being great music in it, like almost everyone, I don't consider it a musical.

So far:
#25. Neptune's Daughter (one-pointer)

2 for 4. I was one of the two people who put Cinderella on their ballot (#5). Loved it as a kid. Who doesn't like Rodgers & Hammerstein? And I didn't think Amadeus was considered a musical or else I would have made room on my ballot.

Hello @Yoda and @Thursday Next, FYI I’m not seeing the reveals on my phone.
Me neither

The damn screen is missing and every time I try to scroll an operator ask me, 'What number was I trying to reach?'

I found your reply (particularly the picture) really hilarious. So, after having a crappy day, I thank you for the much-needed laugh!

Tick, Tick... Boom! came out in a year where I don't think I kept up with films well. I don't really know anything about the film, just had a quick look and I'm not sure it will be for me.

Amadeus is very good, but definitely not a musical.

2/4 seen.

If this ever finishes, we should do a chart of the ones that are the least similar to a musical (with the one which is the least similar to a musical at the top).
