Joker 2 (Folie à Deux)

This would have been a much better movie!

So very disappointed in him

Allegedly read by Sir Richard Attenborough in some obscure documentary...

And so it was that the conspirators risked and lost much in their desperate gambit to resuscitate musical theatre by extending an olive branch to the incel community. Under the crushing weight of the realization of their saddening failure, they broke into a spontaneous medley of lament.

I'll Do Anything (1994) with Nick Nolte was a musical until the screenings were so harsh they took all the musical scenes out. Hm!

Heres a serious question - If I skipped all the music scenes in the film would the movie be good?

IMHO, it wouldn't be a good movie without the numbers, just shorter. Which is a slight improvement, but it's still a lousy movie.

I thought it was fine with them. Certainly not any worse than some of the other sequels released this year.

Interesting comparison: Deadpool & Wolverine wasn't strictly speaking a musical, but it did have a lot of music and many scenes were choreographed to the songs they used. It went on to make $1.3 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

Joker 2, by comparison, was an attempt (bad one) to be a legit musical, and it featured Lady Gaga, but it was ravaged by critics and audiences mostly stayed away, it will end up losing hundreds of millions for WB in its theatrical release, making it one of the biggest financial disasters for the studio this year.

Maybe people are OK with movies that have a lot of music/songs, but aren't trying to be musicals, more than they are with some wanna-be musicals?

So, what do you think the message of the film was? Is this an unfriendly deconstruction of "The Joker"?

I don't think there's any message.

We already knew the mental health care available in Gotham sucked big time, so even that isn't really news anymore.

Ehhhh I didnt really see this being a "joker" movie the first time around...looks like more of the same.
The first one felt like taxi driver but with green and white paint all over it, and this looks like...im not sure what, i guess
more of the same but with music. Saw the first Joker movie, it was fine, characer study on mental health..but yeah hearing how bad it is
i can just save a hour and a half of my life.

I don't actually wear pants.
I get why they made a second Joker. However I have zero interest in this weird-looking oddball mess of a film. I didn't even like the first Joker, and this really feels like a slap in the face of fans of the original film as well as fans of the character, which apparently is why Tarantino likes it, according to the article Viddy shared (if it is to be believed) (I doubt the article and not our friend who shared it).
