Hello. I watched a movie about Indians attacking a fort with American settlers. The latter don't thing they'll be able to hold on and somehow they manage to tie the bodies of the killed settlers onto horses and parade them, so that the Indians can see and think that the defenders are more than they actually are.

A little boy from the fort tells one of the defenders that the horsemen look dead and he answers that they are actually dead.

I watched this movie before 2000. Thank you!

This is similar to the novel Beau Geste, which has been made into a movie many times! Except it is a French Foreign Legion fort being attacked by Arabs. And the corpses are not tied to horses, but are propped up to look like the walls are guarded. Probably the scriptwriter was thinking of Beau Geste.

what genre Weston movie is it?
How would somebody answer this? Western is a genre. If you want to split "Western" into subgenres for some reason, the OP gives you some information about the movie to make that determination.

I remember the fort had forest around it, not deserts. So, it wasn't a Wild West type of a movie.

P.S. Sorry, I've misspelled "American" in the title.

That's the same kind of deception. I never knew about that novel or movie but they both sound interesting, I'll definitely check them out further. Thank you!

I believe it Ametica!

A forest suggests a movie set during the French and Indian War, Pontiac Rebellion, etc. I do not recall any such film with a Beau Geste dead soldiers trope, although Northwest Passage (1940) does have an abandoned fort.
