Live-action How to Train Your Dragon (2025)

So, heard there's a new live-action version of How to Train your Dragon coming out next year, and here's the first look photo from the movie:

Mason Thames is playing Hiccup, while Toothless the dragon will be rendered via CGI.

The creator of the animated franchise is also directing the live-action version, so there's hope. Also, Gerard Butler is reprising his role from animated to live-action as Hiccup's father.

Lots of things in this film could go wrong (Astrid being "diverse", the flying scenes, the collective of side characters bloating the runtime)...but seeing Toothless in live action and it working

So it's starting to look like the exact same thing. Yay...

Right...a two and a half to three hour film about Dragons fighting Vikings led by a charismatic protagonist....

Do I need to spoil Nosferatu for you..cause we know what that movie is going to be.

June has 6 movies right now...

28 Days Later sequel....Megan seguel, Elio(Pixar movie) and the Gender swap of John Wick with Ana De Armas.

Also the Brad Pitt racecar movie F1 which is I guess the only "original film" announced so far.

Yeah, don’t care or have any interest in this one.

I love the original movie and its trilogy. But this just looks like your classic live action remake. The soul is gone.

I guess the fact that the original director is actually making it give me a little bit of hope. But ultimately I doubt I’ll ever see this unless it gets rave reviews…

A: in Dragon's case, that might help the character development and story be less predictable, but chances are that won't happen.

B: Every Dracula movie I've seen so far has been very different, so I'm not worried about Nosferatu, just about what "doing" will be put on it.

Boldly going.
Toothless looks pretty much exactly the same. So insert live actors here, and for the flying sequences, insert helicoptor there.

Sometimes these animated-to-live action remakes work for me, like Malificent, Cinderella (2015) and Jungle Book (2016).
