My life isn't written very well.
Have you ever been the victim of a genre? You watch one really good genre picture when you're young, say a western, then as you grow older you continue to watch films within that genre.

Can you trace the films of your genre preference, or the genre you subscribe to frequently, back to the first film you you watched from it?

My example is slasher films:

I saw Psycho, which gave way to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then I saw Friday the 13th, then Halloween and finally Scream.

The films don't have to be in the order you saw them. In fact it might be better if you list them by which year they came out. You decide.

The Dirty Dozen was one of my first favorite movies, our local channel showed it on Sundays two or three times a year. That, being male, and serving in the military, made the war genre my favorite.

My quick reply would be that I don't have a favourite genre but when I think a little bit about it I would have to say War too.

The films I remember watching the earliest in life and that stuck are films like "Dirty Dozen", "Where Eagles Dare", "Guns of Navarone", "The Bridge Over the River Kwai" and stuff like that. My father likes that kind of movies so that might have something to do with it.

If I had to pick one film as my favourite, all categories, I would have to say "The Thin Red Line" with "Apocalypse Now!" as a steady Top 10 contender. I also love "Das Boot", "Cross of Iron", "Full Metal Jacket" etc etc etc.

Even since I'm very into movies it's not until recently that I've discovered what a sucker for war movies that I am. But there you go... One should analyze one's film collction a little more often perhaps...

Ok, these aren't exactly new but here's some tips for you anyway:
  • "The Longest Day" (1962)
  • "Stalingrad" (1993)
  • "Das Boot" (1981)
  • "Rome, Open City" (1945)

horror movies:

the fly (cronenberg)>>videodrome>>the brood>>rabid>>night of the living dead>>texas chainsaw massacre>>evil dead>>dawn of the dead>>tenebre>>evil dead 2>>nightmare on elm street>>dead alive>>cemetary man>>the reanimator>>bride of the reanimator>>from beyond>>i spit on your grave.

i spit on your grave killed my horror watching stint, and then raped it a couple dozen times for good measure.
