Post-apocalyptic, protagonist is possibly a gyrocopter captain?

OK, need help with the title of this one.
I think I only saw it once from a rental place, but I know I liked it!

So, it's some kind of post-apocalyptic setting, possibly nuclear, or just economic/social like in the Mad Max setting,
I can't remember much, but I'll try for some scenes or people:
1. Opening-ish scene, the protagonist is mugged or ambushed by a gang of men, who drive a car (cars being rare in this setting). Their leader, IIRC, has a bright white suit and dark hair.
2. Protagonist at some point in the movie makes an escape on a gyrocopter or low-powered single-seater airplane.
3. In the middle of the movie, the protagonist meets an old man who lives in an abandoned hospital. It is heavily locked and booby trapped, to keep out the gang mentioned above. He has a woman locked in a room, and shows her off to the protagonist, after blind-folding him. (TvTropes says she's a sex slave to the man, but the scenes I saw showed her more as a prisoner. I guess the metaphors weren't obvious enough for me.) Anyways, at some point, the protagonist's comings and goings becomes the downfall of this old man, as the gang is able to break in when he's opening a door. I think this leads to the airplane/gyro escape scene mentioned above.
4. Was shot in colour, I think; it was a long time ago, so I can't know for sure. Definitely a washed out colour pallete used, if it was indeed shot in colour.
5. I want to say this is a film from Europe, but I don't know. Probably not from North America. Possibly had subtitles.

I hope that's enough to go on.
Thanks!

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
It probably is, but that's in B&W and basically has no subtitles since there are only four words spoken in the film.

Woo! Best forum ever!

Read Le Dernier Combat's summary on wikipedia, but the director's name Luc Besson is what clicked in my brain.
Looks like a winner!
I guess it was actually one step further than subtitles...silent :P
And it has Jean Reno in it! :O

Thanks!
