I'm glad musicals is starting to win. I want to focus on the more "classic" side of film for the time being, since there are a lot of lists here I haven't thoroughly explored.

In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Surprised "Romance" has little interest. I wonder if some voted for the top 2, hoping to sway it one direction or another, but a majority of movies could be considered "Romance"

Musicals wins! And 90s Redux is next in line, by default. We can/will still discuss whether it should still come next, but we're penciling it in unless something comes up or a particularly popular or compelling alternative is advanced.

Yeah Musicals

We should absolutely do 90s Redux, it's fair dinkum. After the 90s Redux, we should do one of the other genre ideas, then 80s Redux...then another genre and so on and on!

Thursday Next's Avatar
I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Musicals! Finally!

Oh, now I actually have to do host stuff...give me a couple of days and I'll get a preliminary post up.

I'll take suggestions for the time frame... 3 months? Longer? Shorter?

And any other details people want to weigh in on, feel free to do so here (and I'll feel free to accept or ignore them )

I think having 90s redux next is fair. It was a close race. I was against redoing it initially (how much can I care about whether Pulp Fiction beats Goodfellas this time? Not much) but the more I think about it, the more I see it as an opportunity to revisit and reassess films I might not have seen for 25 years.

Trying Real Hard To Be The Shepherd
Can’t wait to see what you got for us Thursday. I should get in another 5 or 6 musicals in before the countdown no problem.😉

4 months seems about right. The Noir & Neo Noir was 4 months, War was 4.5 months. We had some countdowns with 5 month long watch periods and Westerns was 6 months.

A musical is any film with music in it right. Like any film with a soundtrack or a score.

Seems easy, not sure what the big deal is.

*someone whispers in my ear*

Oh.

ohhhhhh

The decisions about what movies are musicals are up to Thursday of course. But this Wiki article might help explain:

Musical film is a film genre in which songs by the characters are interwoven into the narrative, sometimes accompanied by dancing. The songs usually advance the plot or develop the film's characters, but in some cases, they serve merely as breaks in the storyline, often as elaborate "production numbers".

Oh, my wife is going to be thrilled!

And by thrilled, I mean she is going to avoid the living room for the next couple of months.

Hopefully movies just sings one song don't count or you're going to run into things like this

imo, it should be movies where they sing and dance most of the movie. Will have to see what Thursday has in store for us.
