Halloween Horror Binge

Haunt was just okay. The visuals were good, but it had a lot of really really dumb good guy decisions, and good guys getting horribly injured, only to seem perfectly fine minutes later.

Still, it ends strong, and I like

the banal, lack of emotions from the villains, especially the clown, the last survivor. This is just a Tuesday for him.
Gotta love it when characters go to a random location in the middle of nowhere and see this sign that says "Haunted House" I wouldn't even trust that. Still a good movie to me though, that ending was satisfying for sure.

Sorry I'm posting so much but I think of a filmfrom a specific region ad try to think of more. After this, I will stop for a while.

Asian

Art of The Devil 1 & 2
Bedevilled
The Heirloom
Dumpling

Moebius - Warning: It's a Kim Ki-duk film and a bit strange.

OOF! Bedevilled was not an easy watch. Extremely heavy and uncomfortable, but also extremely well performed, especially by Seo Young-hee.

Reminicent of
WARNING: spoilers below
Dogville, only with far more violence and gore on screen.

I got through it, so my limit is somewhere between:

Bedevilled (2010)

And

A God Without a Universe (2015)

I think Wither may be a good one for you. It's a slasher type film.

Unless you want a ghost type, then it would be Hidden.

Thale and Sennentuntsche are more folk horror based. Thale deals with the Scandinavian Huldra. Sennentuntsche is base of folk magic.

Lamb is pretty good too. It stars Noomi Rapace.

Wither took a long time to get moving, and some of the acting was very cringy, but overall I enjoyed it. After the action starts with

the world's hardest staring contest
things really take off. I especially like the supernatural nature of the main monster, something we don't often see in zombie movies.

I also really loved the ending song, over the credits. It's by Sara Varga, Så vill jag inte leva (translated: I Don't Want to Live Like That).

What if I go for decade?

1900s: A Panicky Picnic (1909)
1910s: Suspense. (1913)
1920s: The Monster (1925)
1930s: The 9th Guest (1934)
1940s: The Uninvited (1944)
1950s: The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953)
1960s: The Masque of the Red Death (1964)
1970s: Terror of Frankenstein (1977)
1980s: Angst (1983)
1990s: Storm of the Century (1999)
2000s: Pontypool (2008)
2010s: The Eyes of My Mother (2016)
2020s: The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020)

Pontypool is another great film in that list.

Out of curiosity, you wouldn't happen to be a fan of the tv/streaming show "Creature Features" would you?

It's a 'late night horror movie'style show, like Sven Ghoulie and Elvira host. It's extremely campy, which I enjoy.

I only ask because you recommended Terror of Frankenstein, and they just showed that.

Despite good acting and production values, and surprising loyalty to the source material, I can't get over how un-scary and not ugly the Creature is. The story depends on the premise that he's incredible deformed, and honestly he's kind of hot. I give that Creature a 6 out of 10.

LOL.

Director: I need this monster to look very scary. Like, people will physically recoil from him.
Makeup Designer: Yes, so attractive Victorian man going through emo phase.
Director: . . . . Okay . . . .
Makeup Designer: Very sexy.
Director: What?
Makeup Designer: Nothing.

Also, have you seen the show Penny Dreadful? They also had an unacceptably attractive Frankenstein (but the show was also horny as all get out, so he kind of fits in).

My vote for hottest Frankenstein monster is Luke Goss from the 2004 miniseries
To be fair, though, if you look back in the original novel, I believe the creature is described as having "cheekbones for DAYS".

Here is the unspeakable horror from Terror of Frankenstein

Goth, yes, but nowhere near horrifying, or even ugly.

I mean, back before vaccines, people would get terrible facial scarring from smallpox. And there were tons of people with untreated syphilis. I'm just saying, there were people 10x more frightening on every street corner.

The Unborn
Smile
The Babysitter and it's sequel
any of the Fear Street movies

Those are some of the best.

Without derailing the thread, I'd like to hear what you liked about this film.

I didn't care for Smile. It felt like a 10 minute short stretched way too thin.

I really liked the Fear Street series. I've watched it all. I also liked the first Babysitter movie, but haven't seen the sequel.

I'll add that sequel and the Unborn to my watch list. Thank you!

I share this with you and I wasn't that surprised that that's exactly what it was.

It was a better It Follows. Liked the acting and the death scenes. Plus I met the main girl at a horror con last year.

The Guy Who Sees Movies
I don't exactly go on a binge, but I do haul out some favorite war horses. Right now, I'm thinking about:

The Fog (the old one, not the newer remake)

The Mothman Prophecies

Bram Stoker's Dracula

Ghostbusters

I think I made it about 25 minutes into Smile before bailing. And aside from encountering, like, unsimulated animal cruelty or Kevin Sorbo, I NEVER bail on movies.

Ah. I thought it was a much worse It Follows. Or The Ring or Oculus or whatever curse movie you like. And it's not like It Follows is my favorite or anything. But that's what makes the world go round, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm trying to understand the appeal.

I actually considered it a few times. I kept checking the timer on it and kept being in shock that it still had so long to go.
