I watched Emilia Perez....

Emilia Pérez is a mess. The mix of crime drama and musical is awkward, the pacing drags, and the performances are bland. Karla Sofía Gascón doesn’t bring enough presence to carry the story, and the musical numbers feel forced and cringeworthy. Even with big names like Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, nothing really lands emotionally. It tries to be bold and different, but instead, it’s just a slog.

I have not seen it but it certainly seems like the reaction to it is either 1 or 5.

Emilia Perez is a mess. The tone is inconsistent and the film is trying to be too many different things at once. It felt like the film was trying to say something progressive but the message doesn't come across clearly. That being said, there are some effective moments that work in spite of the rest of the film. This is also a well acted film with very good performances from Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldana. I liked the singing, even though there really was no reason to make this a musical. I don't think this is anywhere near one of the best pictures of the year. It didn't deserve 13 Oscar nominations, more like 3.

So far, I seem to be the only one on this site that has anything positive to say about this film.

True but it is also the favorite, apparently, for BP and some other awards.

I'm not sure if it is the favourite anymore after all the controversies and backlash against the film. I don't think there is a clear favourite anymore. I'm predicting The Brutalist for best picture, but there are probably five films that have a legit shot at winning best picture at this point.

I imagine that some in the LGBT community want the film removed after the backlash. Then they could replace it with something the whole public likes, like Sonic 3.

Gotcha, I haven't been following, just the last thing I read, which may have been like a week ago seemed to indicate that it was the favorite, not only for the movie but for political reasons as well.

I don't really follow Oscar races, but I'm a little surprised Anora isn't the favorite given how much people seemed to enjoy the act of watching the movie. Granted, if my train of thought on these things were accurate, Emilia Perez wouldn't have registered on anyone's radars and would never have been a nominee let alone a frontrunner (which probably is related to my, "I don't really follow Oscar races.")

It's not as bad as everyone's saying... but riding the online hate train is fun, I get it.

Just how bad it is really depends on your knowledge about a few things. The less you know, the more you might not be aware about some of the more offensive things in the movie.

This movie is endlessly fascinating to me. I haven't seen it. The viral musical clip is absolutely horrendous...like an 8 year old wrote it. I mean laughably bad. (and the academy awarded it with best song )

This looks like an intersectional bomb went off and they decided to film it. It's a movie by an elitest white French male about a trans Mexican cartel leader...that Mexicans hate and trans people hate. Oh and the trans lead actor/actress (I'm confused) is facing heat for not liking Muslims in Europe (shocking I know Muslims are known to be very accepting to Trans people).

Listen I haven't seen it, but from that musical clip it looks atrocious. I kind of hope it wins everything so it sends the Academy into chaos.
